Hospice by the Bay Announces New CEO and COO

In April, 2014, Kitty Whitaker, RN, MS, was appointed Hospice by the Bay’s Chief Executive Officer by the nonprofit’s Board of Directors, succeeding former CEO Sandra Lew. In Whitaker’s 18 years with the regional health care provider, she served as Chief Operating Officer, Director of Hospice Services, Team Leader and Hospice Nurse.

“I have such respect for this organization that I’m honored to help guide its future and growth,” Whitaker says. “I look forward to reaching out to develop partnerships with other agencies.” She adds, “Hospice by the Bay offers the best in end-of-life care. I want everyone to know about our services and have access to them when needed.”

Whitaker moved from her position as Chief Operating Officer, which she held since 2008. As COO, she had overall responsibility for administration and oversight of clinical operations in Marin, San Francisco, Northern San Mateo and Sonoma counties and the City of Napa. Her experience in working with the Medicare accrediting agency, Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP), led to numerous successful re-accreditations for Hospice by the Bay.

A Corte Madera resident, Whitaker holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from UCSF. She is a member of Vistage International.

New Chief Operating Officer Wendy Ranzau, (RN, BSN), brings extensive experience in managing Northern California hospice care and home health programs. The position has overall responsibility administration and oversight of clinical operations throughout Hospice by the Bay’s service area.
